<p><em><strong>architectura</strong>, Zeitschrift für Geschichte der Baukunst (Journal of the History of Architecture)</em>, ist eine internationale Zeitschrift mit Aufsätzen – teils in englischer Sprache – zu Themen der Bau- und Architekturgeschichte sowie mit einem regelmäßigen Rezensionsteil.</p><p>Neben der Historischen Bauforschung widmet sich die Zeitschrift Themen der Bau- und Stadtbaugeschichte sowie der Architekturgeschichte von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart. Die Aufsätze werden durch die Herausgeber und durch unabhängige Berichterstatter (peers) geprüft.</p><p>Die <em>architectura</em> ist im Arts and Humanities Citation Index und im European Reference Index for the Humanities and the Social Sciences gelistet.</p><p>Die Zeitschrift erscheint zweimal jährlich – seit 2018 bei De Gruyter, zuvor im Deutschen Kunstverlag.</p><p><strong>Vollständiger Archivzugriff</strong></p><p>Ab 2026 umfasst jedes Zeitschriftenabonnement bei De Gruyter den Zugriff auf alle Ausgaben, von Band 1, Ausgabe 1 bis heute. Das bedeutet, dass Abonnenten ohne zusätzliche Kosten auf noch mehr Forschungsergebnisse zugreifen können.</p>

<p>The article discusses the drawing in the Munich Stadtmuseum of a model that, according to the caption, was intended for S. Giovanni dei Fiorentini. Based on a detailed examination of the elevation of the interior and exterior shown in the drawing, the ground plan is reconstructed. A precise analysis of the drawing reveals the same layout as that specified by Vasari for Jacopo Sansovino’s model for the new building of S. Giovanni dei Fiorentini from 1518. The resulting identification of the model is supplemented by a look at the style of Sansovino’s works and a comparison with Antonio da Sangallo’s model from 1518 for S. Giovanni dei Fiorentini. The attribution of the project represented to Raphael or Giulio Romano, which is now commonplace, although nothing of this has been handed down, is based on an aberrant interpretation of Vasari’s information and an inaccurate examination of the drawing.</p></abstract>

<p>In 1827, the Amsterdam city architect Jan de Greef was secretly commissioned by the Dutch government to design a cathedral for the capital, in connection with its planned elevation to a bishop’s see. The main version of the plans for the building, ultimately not realized, shows a three-aisled cruciform basilica with an ambulatory, a non-projecting transept, and a two-tower façade, in an austere neoclassical style that clearly bears the marks of his sojourns in Paris and Rome as a scholarship holder of King Louis Napoléon.</p>
<p>The overall design is that of a classical French Gothic cathedral, transformed into a contemporary style, while some striking elements, such as the large thermal window in the façade, are borrowed from the SS. Trinità dei Monti in Rome. There are clear parallels with the work of foreign contemporaries such as John Soane in England, Leo von Klenze in Germany, and Jakob Ignaz Hittorff in France. The main source of inspiration was probably the Grand Prix of the École des Beaux-Arts from 1809, in the middle of de Greefs Parisian period, where the assignment consisted of designing a cathedral that explicitly had to have a two-tower front, instead of a dome.</p></abstract>

<p>The interiors at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London mark a specific stage in furniture development: the transition from handcrafted pieces to mass-produced goods. Since the July Revolution of 1830, the bourgeoisie had prospered under Louis-Philippe and the Liberal Party. Subsequently, innovative interiors emerged, employing industrial materials and historical stylistic forms. Prince Albert and the Royal Commission based their conception of the Great Exhibition on this development in France. This article understands the London Great Exhibition as a dispositive that responded to industrialization and fostered interior design geared towards the bourgeoisie, as well as its purely sensory reception.</p></abstract>

<p>In the early republican phase of Türkiye, »People’s Houses« (<italic>Halkevleri</italic>) served as educational and cultural centers to promote the principles of the »Kemalist« ideology embraced by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye. The <italic>Halkevleri</italic> were part of the efforts to modernize Turkish society. They were established to support Atatürk’s ideal of popularizing education. Representing the winds of cultural change in the country, <italic>Halkevleri</italic> also stood for architectural modernization. Located at the major squares of the cities, the buildings of the <italic>Halkevleri</italic> became important representations of modern Turkish architecture as from the 1930s onwards.</p>
<p>The aim of this article is a) to identify the characteristic architectural features of the <italic>Halkevleri</italic> and b) to understand how they contributed to the perception of the cities in which they were located. Additionally, this contribution aims to point out the symbolic references the building designs made to »modernism« and »progress«. Both aspirations are regarded as meaningful statements of the early Republic and of Kemalist ideology, aims that carried clear references to technology and industry as symbols of the crucial changes taking place in that era.</p></abstract>
