Paul Troger ranks as one of southern Germany and Austria’s most important painters of the Baroque era. His extensive oeuvre exerted a profound influence on contemporary and later artists. Troger's best-known works include ceiling frescoes in monasteries across Lower Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary as well as in the Brixen Cathedral. His oil paintings and drawings, however, are regarded as masterpieces, too. Johann Kronbichler has written an in-depth biography of Paul Troger, complete with a critical catalog of works and full photographic documentation.
