In our twenty-third episode, we are at Museum Wiesbaden. The exhibition will remain on view until 17 January 2027. Kevin Schneider from Deutscher Kunstverlag speaks with Peter Forster, curator of the exhibition “Art Nouveau and Symbolism. Georg Lührig: A Master from Dresden.” In the podcast, he answers questions such as: What do Art Nouveau and Symbolism actually stand for? Why is the exhibition making art history? Why is Art Nouveau considered the last revolutionary art movement? What happened in a “mysterious” cellar in Leverkusen? And why was Dresden such an important place for artists?

For far too long, Georg Lührig (1868–1957) was a forgotten artist of Dresden. Although born in Göttingen, he lived on the banks of the Elbe for almost five decades and became a true “master in Dresden.” Together with Hans Unger, Sascha Schneider, Oskar Zwintscher, and Richard Müller, he developed a distinctive and enigmatic visual language that gave Art Nouveau and Symbolism a unique artistic expression. Today, this remarkable body of work can finally be rediscovered.
