In our twenty-second episode, we visit the Kunstmuseum Basel. The exhibition ‘Helen Frankenthaler’ will be on view until 23 August 2026. Kevin Schneider from Deutscher Kunstverlag speaks with Anita Haldemann, curator of the exhibition. In the podcast, she answers questions such as: What characterizes Frankenthaler’s abstract style? What role did she play in 1950s New York? How did she work with spatial effects and lines?
More than fifty works spanning six decades provide an impressive insight into the oeuvre of one of the most important artists of American abstraction in the special exhibition ‘Helen Frankenthaler’ at the Kunstmuseum Basel. Frankenthaler’s intensely colored, predominantly large-format paintings illuminate the exhibition spaces and captivate visitors. This comprehensive retrospective is the largest exhibition of her paintings ever presented in Europe and her first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland.
