The painter, draughtsman and printmaker, who was born in Speyer in 1880, was known as a promoter of the newly awakening art and cultural life in the Palatinate after 1945. The Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern preserves an important collection of 21 paintings, 40 prints and 29 drawings by him.
Purrmann maintained an important contact with the SPD politician and managing director of the Palatinate Secession, Willibald Gänger. Their correspondence from 1950-1960 is now accessible for the first time. On the occasion of the new edition of letters Hans Purrmann und Willibald Gänger. Ein Briefwechsel über die Kunst und Kultur der 1950er-Jahre, the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern is showing the cabinet exhibition “Hans Purrmann – mit der Pfalz verbunden”. In addition to works by Purrmann, it also brings together works by Rolf Müller-Landau and Theo Siegle. The Purrmann letters will also be on display as examples.
