Maulbronn Monastery

Hrsg. Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Staatsanzeiger-Verlag

Führer Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg

English Edition

This guidebook outlines the history of the Cistercian monastery of Maulbronn, its occupants and their buildings. Maulbronn, the former Cistercian monastery, which now has a history of more than 860 years to look back on, is considered to be the most completely preserved monastery complex from the Middle Ages north of the Alps. Since its inscription in the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1993, it has been one of the most frequently visited cultural monuments in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. It affords a lifelike insight into the spiritual and economic microcosm within which the Cistercians used to live and impresses visitors with its outstanding buildings.  In the time since the monastery was dissolved, Maulbronn has become famous for the protestant college (secondary school) within the same walls. Leading scientists and poets who once sat at its desks include Johannes Kepler, Friedrich Hölderlin and Hermann Hesse.

Dieser Führer Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg präsentiert die Geschichte der Zisterzienserabtei Maulbronn, ihrer Bewohner und ihrer Bauwerke.
