This cabinet exhibition at Munich’s Lenbachhaus showed images taken by the German photographer Leonore Mau (1916–2013) during a journey to Haiti – these days it would be called an “artistic study trip” – undertaken with her life partner, Hubert Fichte, in the 1970s. The curatorial team, consisting of an art historian, an artists’ collective and an architectural office, developed an artistically transformed presentation. This was a spatial and sound installation featuring a selection of the photographer’s vast stock of images – only some of which were published as elaborately produced photo books during her own lifetime –, staged as a continuous and immersive digital projection.
