The “Studio Cologne” exhibition in Körnerstraße, Cologne-Ehrenfeld, showed historical photographs from Cologne photo studios (1861–1928) from 24 May to 23 June 2024. Magenta-colored strings of pennants guided visitors through the street, where enlarged portraits on posters, cut-outs and paste-ups were on display as well as the original cartes de visite in unusual indoor showrooms. The exhibition, curated by Markus Schaden, Frederic Lezmi and Christoph Schaden, combined street art elements with traditional forms of presentation. It was based on Christoph Schaden’s research project “Cartes de Cologne”, which comprises around 5,500 historical portraits. The exhibition focussed on the development of photography and the photo book in the 19th century and offered insights into Cologne society at the time.
