The Deutsche Bundespost, a state-owned enterprise (1950−1995), was for many years the largest employer in the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as being an important client for the economy. The automotive industry and construction profited from this along with artists, graphic designers and photographers. In order to document significant new postal and telecommunications buildings, as stated by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the relevant building departments of the regional postal directorates should commission architectural photographs. Many have been preserved in the collection of the Museumsstiftung Post und Telekommunikation at the Museum für Kommunikation in Frankfurt. The work of sifting through the some 3,000 prints and slides to facilitate their cataloging has revealed that a relatively high percentage were produced by women.
