Abstract

Abstract

»The dematerialised corner is the analogous solution to the corner problem« writes Hilmar Mund (Mund 1980, 55). The Doric triglyph conflict probably represented the oldest conflict in architecture up to that point. However, the study of modern skeletal construction suggests analogous geometric and constructive conflicts. But even in solid construction, different corner designs can be seen over time, which indicate conflicts in the sector of the corner of the building. Both design principles lead to different solution approaches. The combination of the tectonic and stereotomous construction principles creates further possibilities for designing the corner of the building. However, there does not seem to be a solution to the corner problem across all construction methods.
